The Solid Gold Pocket Watch

Since pocket watches have been popular among collectors, the gold watch has been a much sought after item. If you are willing to spend some money, you may find quite the product line of beautiful gold pocket watches.
There are some gold pocket watches that are only plated, or leafed so. These are much cheaper versions and should not be confused with the solid gold pocket watch. Solid gold will not chip off to reveal a non-gold layer below, and it will last for over a century if well maintained! Be careful not to buy inauthentic or fake gold pocket watches because they could be from the black market. They may not be as sturdy and as reliable as original watches.
Prior to the 16th century, the idea of a portable time piece was simply ridiculous. Few actually had personal time keeping clocks, let alone something you could carry around with you. Clocks were humongous and often only kept in large buildings. Then all of a sudden, a breakthrough occurred and clocks became very small and lightweight, able to be carried in somebody’s pocket. The pocket watch was born.
There are plenty of beautiful gold pocket watches to choose from. Among the selection is the Elgin 18K Solid Gold Antique Pocket Watch, a size 18 wonder with 11 jewels, circa 1884. She will run you about $3,500 in mint condition, however. Not as hefty a price as the Gustave Sachs Antique 18 K Solid Gold Pocket Watch, a size 18 number with 21 jewels, circa 1880. This bad boy is heavily praised, and will set you back a solid $21,000.
If you’re shopping for a nice gold pocket watch, new or antique, rest assured that there is something out there for everyone, guaranteed!
