The Futon: Inexpensive, Stylish and Versatile

For most of us, we are used to having the traditional beds and mattresses. However, the futon is not nearly as popular and well known in western countries as it is in Japan. In Japan this convertible bed/sofa unit is widely used. For one thing, the term futon is what we call the entire traditional Japanese bedding system including both the frame and the mattress, but in Japan the term only applies to the mattress itself. This piece of furniture can be used as a sofa, coach or seat, during the day, and at night it can be converted into a very comfortable and stylish bed. This helps save space in the long run, since it is both a sofa and a bed. Plus it can be a money saver as well, considering that one does not need to buy both a bed and sofa, when one buys a futon instead.
They are also rather cheap, adding to their overall appeal, plus they come in a wide range of colors and styles to suit every type of decor. Some futons can be quite expensive, such as high-quality ones, which, instead of being made out of cotton, have mattresses that are coil-filled. All in all, there are lots and lots of types of futon furniture, such as a futon sofa bed, a futon bunk bed, and they can be made out of either, wood or metal. The futon used to be known for being very uncomfortable for sleeping, but the models available on the market today are actually quite comfortable.
One can never go wrong when choosing futon furniture, because it is simply one of the best most versatile furniture pieces out there. They are an excellent choice for studio apartments, dorm rooms and home offices that are sometimes used as a guest room, basically anywhere where a little extra seating and a temporary bad may be useful.
