Perfume Review: Beautiful By Estee Lauder And Opium Pour Home Eau D’orient By Yves Saint Laurent

These are two of my favorite perfumes, which I am happy to review here.
Beautiful by Estée Lauder. The official story says that this was, for the fashion house, one of the most difficult perfumes to create, with years of tests and research of the best ingredients. The aim was to create a fragrance which would be romantic, feminine, and timeless, in the sense of out of that epoch’s fashion criterion. The image of woman this perfume projects, is one who seduces with her personality and femininity, rather with exterior appearance.
The opening is almost completely floral, white, innocent, soft garden flowers. In the middle phase this fragrance opens up, with a soapy jasmine, and also traces of ylang-ylang. As hours pass, jasmine becomes dominant, but towards the base notes, the range gets wider and wider: narcissus, jasmine, amber with mandarin, rose, vanilla, iris. This Beautiful perfume is perfect for a daily use, especially in warm spring days. On the romantic side, it’s more a perfume for a couple, rather than for a first date, but that’s consistent with the whole idea of the perfume.
Opium pour Homme Eau d’Orient is a version of Opium pour Homme, which, in turn is a masculine version of the Original Opium perfume. It being a summer perfume, it’s in general softer than the original, whose ingredients are all there, but softer.
The opening is with bergamot and anise, whereas in the middle notes there are fresh spices like ginger and pepper (like in the original, but without tingling the nose), and also a light trace of nutmeg. In the base notes there is a note of green vetiver, with sweet wood and amber. The sweet resinous notes of the original, like vanilla or tolù are definitely not there.
All in all this perfume has less personality then the original, but this is what makes it more versatile, and this is why I love it.
