Managing Public Panic Attacks

Many people suffering from panic attacks have a hard time fitting into ”normal” society and managing their own lives. This is because this condition is so serious that in many cases, when not addressed in good time, can ruin the victim’s social, family and professional life. Some people choose to lock themselves away from the public or try medication, but these may not be practical long term solutions or work in all conditions. If you are a victim of this condition, you may be looking for practical ways of coping with panic attacks as you try to find permanent treatment.
To treat panic attacks, you have to identify the triggers or conditions when the attacks are more likely to occur. In most cases, the triggering thoughts are those of past horrific experiences especially from childhood memories. Although anti-anxiety, anti-depressant and tranquilizer pills are good in emergency situations, these drugs are not always a long term solution to the problem and when used for long periods of time can have bad side effects. You have to be certain that the condition you are suffering is panic attacks and not some underlying more serious condition that has the same characteristics. There are a number of self-help remedies you can do at home to reduce the frequency, intensity and the duration of the attacks including taking part in yoga and Tai chi or any other stretching and relaxing aerobic exercises, avoiding stimulants especially those with caffeine like coffee, alcohol and cigarettes and getting sufficient rest at night.
In order to successfully overcome social anxiety, one must admit that they have the condition and hiding it from the people around you can exacerbate the problem. The fear that an attack might come in a social place can be a trigger in and of itself, so it is best to keep emotions and fears in check in public places and most importantly, avoid stressful and confrontational situations.
